When that didn't work, a metal detector was brought in by one of the parents when the game had finished. It kept finding the pipes in the grass along with coins buried down in the ground. Kids kept calling out that they had found it when they hadn't. I don't know how Stacie kept her cool as well as she did!
The search continued on throughout lunch and recess when one of the students finally cried out that she had found it! The ring was safe, the weather was beautiful, and the ice cream for our party was on its way. What a perfect day!
Until we were sitting outside for 20 minutes and the ice cream still hadn't showed up. After multiple unanswered calls to the parent purchasing it, she called with her apologies and that she had "lost track of time" but was in line to buy it at that moment. Well, with 20 minutes of school left, do you think those kids got their hard earned ice cream? Instead, they got to wait for breakfast ice cream on the last day of school.

That seems a bit anticlimactic for them. All that work they did and they had to go home with nothing. I'm surprised you didn't have a mutiny on your hands.
