Day 79: Thursday, January 29 - What Do You Eat At Work When You Can't Eat Anything?

My day back at work. Let's just say it was interesting. I could not bring myself to get out of bed when the alarm went off. (It didn't help that I puked up a pill in the middle of the night because I took it on an empty stomach.) I accidentally fell back asleep. Not only am about the slowest mover on the planet right now, but that meant I had less time to get ready! As soon as that was done, I had to figure out food for the day. I have no appetite, but that doesn't matter as much when you are lying on the couch all day long. Teaching will require a little nutritional sustenance to get me through the day. I left for pretty much on time, well really only 10 minutes late, and stopped in at Albertson's to get me some food. Considering I can't chew any solid food, I went for a meal in a can. I grabbed the Boost smoothie, complete with 9 grams of protein and 22 vitamins and minerals. Plenty of energy to get me through the day. I could drink one for breakfast and another for lunch, along with a yogurt and a jello. Perfect things for the likes of me. Too bad they are disgusting! This is the only place for them.

I tried hard to eat them for the sake of my body, but the gagging I did every time I swallowed, not to mention the pain of swallowing, made it so not worth it. I went home hungry. That's probably part of the reason I looked like death warmed over at the end of the day. One teacher told me I looked like I would fall over if she poked me.

Now, my day was not terrible. In fact, I loved how excited my kids were to see me! They had 3 different subs in three days. They told me they never want a sub again. It was even an easy day. Assembly in the morning, I had the kids correct the work and lead everything so I didn't have to talk, PE at the end of the day. Even my observation went well. It was a good day to come back to. (Plus, I had been getting pretty bored at home on the couch. I don't sit well.)

It was not easy, either. Because the kids were so excited to have me back and watched me shuffle into the classroom 5 minutes before school started (they grocery store was extremely slow!), they were very excitable all day. (The assembly didn't help that one, either.) I had to use every technique in the book to keep them focused. My throat was killing me, and I believe I got a bit of a fever by the end. I came home and took a 2 hour nap I was so tired. I had decided on my way to take 1 more day off. I also promised the kiddies I would be back in action on Monday and all next week (well, until I have to teach math training on Thursday). My guilty conscience aside, Mike pretty much convinced me that I really needed that last day to fully recoup. (I also discovered they really did learn something this week, so that helped out.) One more day off. Boredom, here I come!
