I remember when I was younger and it was a giant feat to stay up until midnight. The older and wiser I get the more I want to get to bed as much before midnight as possible.
New Year's Eve has been a modge podge of celebration throughout my life. I can think of fun games and Chinese crackers. Movies and spending time with friends. Food, food and more food. There was the year with the puppies. There were the years at friends houses and at my own house. Just Dance on the Wii. Restaurants.
And then there are the days like the one where I had had my wisdom teeth taken out four days previously. Or the one where I got all dressed up and Mike fell asleep at 9. Or the parties I went to by myself. But we won't think too hard about those days.
Now I view New Year's Eve as more of a time for people to get drunk and hook up. Tonight I spent some time at the mall (until it closed), hung out at Kiersten and David's for a bit (until they went to a movie), then spent the rest of the evening with the crew of The Big Bang Theory and TBS. I also did a few DIY projects I have been meaning to do since February. I finally put the signs on my doors. That took me all of ten seconds.
I was planning on going to bed before 11, but instead I managed to read until well after midnight. I looked up just as the clock struck 12:07, wished Zoe a happy new year as I whisked her off to her own bed, then went to sleep, even though I wasn't really tired but I knew that I needed to go to bed.
