Parents and Costumes and Inmates, Oh My!

I think this was the most exhausting week of my entire seven year teaching career. Combine writing report cards with Halloween parties and parades, parent-teacher conferences, and a field trip to the county jail (where no, we didn't actually see inmates or even go inside the jail itself) and anyone would be tired. I actually slept in quite late this morning.

It all started with the trip to the jail on Tuesday afternoon. We went to different stations in the outer buildings of the jail. We saw the bomb squad robots, the SWAT team and their vehicles, a canine unit demonstration, the fire trucks and Smokey the Bear, and the Search and Rescue squad. The kids loved it even though they were absolutely crazy! Poor Smokey was assaulted in the face and the places where his private parts should be were he not just a guy in a bear suit.

Halloween was Wednesday due to the fact that the teachers didn't really want to consult with parents on a professional basis in Halloween costumes. I rocked it as Princess Leia, if I do say so myself (and I do). Unfortunately this is the only shot I have of my costume on my camera.

I had an Obi Wan Kenobi in my class, and when I said, "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope," he responded disdainfully with, "That's not me, I am the one from episode 3." Excuse me Ewan McGregor Obi Wan. I guess I wasn't even born yet.

And the week was topped off with parent-teacher conferences until eight on Thursday night. I actually fell asleep on the couch while watching The Office. Thank heavens I have today off!

You look fantastic! What a crazy week. You deserved a day off. Hope you enjoyed it! I also hope the kids are not still in sugar shock on Monday!
