Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt. This book is set in a much earlier time period in a made up world. Keturah, a beautiful storyteller, gets lost in the woods for several days and encounters Lord Death. She tells him a story about how she has been searching for her one true love for her entire life and manages to get another day of life out of him. He will not claim her if she can find her true love. The book goes on to talk about their bargain, and how she helps her town in the process. It is a very captivating book with an intriguing ending.
General Winston's Daughter by Sharon Shinn. Averie, the only child of General Winston, is traveling from her country of Aeberelle to Chiarrin to meet up with her father and fiance, Captain Morgan, who are stationed there with the military to colonize the foreign country. She and her traveling companion, the widowed Lady Selkirk, encounter Lieutenant Ket Du'kai on the ship. After arriving in Chiarrin, the book continues with her budding interest in Lieutenant Du'kai, her waning interest in her fiance, and her new love of the country of Chiarrin. As she assimilates into the country, she meets Jalessa, a fabric seller, in the market and hires her as her maid. The story continues with rebel terrorists, parties, and fashion. (This was probably my favorite of the three this weekend.)
Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Miranda is a typical 16-year-old girl living in a typical 21st century world until one evening a meteor hits the moon, throwing it out of its orbit and causing tsunamis, volcanoes, tornadoes, and chaos all over the world. This is the story of survival as Miranda, her mother, and two brothers gradually lose electricity and power, food, water, school shuts down, and gas soars to over $12 per gallon. This was such a well written book, but for me the hardest part was the reality of this book and how the consequences in it are something that could really happen after a huge disaster. I also happened to read it on a very overcast day, making me feel as if I was really there with the ash from the volcanoes wiping out any sunlight, and I felt as if I needed to ration our food for dinner like they did in the book. It was like a car wreck and I just couldn't look away. Not a book for the weak-hearted, but very intriguing. And next on my list:

Okay-if you are a nerd...then I am a bigger nerd since I copied all your book suggestions and plan on visiting the library tomorrow to look for them. Question: What are your plans for next year? Are you moving to FL like planned or was that a pipe dream?
