Monday: A New Northwest Adventure

In the 17 1/2 years my family has lived in Washington, we have never been to Northwest Trek. Today Mom, Kendall and I rectified that situation. Northwest Trek is a 725 acre park with over 200 native animals, most of which roam free. Part of the park is the walking trails where you view animal exhibits and close up encounters like this one with the falcon.

We also rode an hour long tram ride where we saw the free roaming animals like bison, caribou, mountain goats, and deer. Some of the animals were even on the road and the tram had to lightly bump them to get them to move out of the way! We got extra lucky today because we saw every single animal species living there.
On the tram.

It was a little chilly today, but without much rain, and the beginning of the season so the park was pretty empty. But can you believe that out of about a whopping 50 people we actually knew somebody else? Randi Sue, a friend from high school, was there with her family. She said they saw more animals on this trip than on any of their other visits. I guess we picked a good day to go!

Favorites:

In the wolf area, there is this little space you crawl into where you can come face to face with a wolf. One of them got pretty up close and personal to Kendall and me. Too bad we didn't have the camera. We didn't believe it would actually happen! This was Kendall's favorite exhibit.

Mom loved seeing the animals that are rarely seen, like the foxes and the white tailed deer. We were some of the few people who got to see all four foxes at once, thanks to the feeding lady getting them a little excited.

My favorite were the otters. They were so playful and fun.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's second Northwest adventure of the trip!
