What Kind of Blogger Are You?

My first post back! I am excited that I don't have to include a picture if I don't want to.

We were talking about blogging today and why we blog. My friend Kerri told me about her friend who is writing a research paper about the performance element behind blogging and the affects of feminism on the online world. On her blog, she has a post about this and asked people to comment on their views for research for her paper. This intrigued me. I mean, I know why I blog, but I didn't realize the different ideas there were out there about blogging. Here is my blogger self in a nutshell:

1. I am a performance blogger. I want to make people laugh, whether it is at something good I did or something completely stupid. For example, while I was getting ready for the morning I looked at my bangs, hated them, and cut them myself. Now I hate them even more! They look terrible and they are too short. Stupid, check. Funny, double check. Or how I accidentally told my class it was Columbus Day and not Veteran's Day. Stupid, triple check. (It's a good thing I managed to cover it up by tying the lesson to the Pilgrims and Thanksgiving.) i m smrt

2. I also want to tell awesome things going on in our lives. I don't feel like I paint a picture of perfection in my life as some people do, because my life is not perfect, but I do want to share with others. I want it to be my daily journal, because I don't keep one. This is it my friends. I just published all my previous posts into a book so one day we can look back on our life and laugh at ourselves and remember how life was back then. I may sound selfish, frivolous, boring, or vain at times, but that is just the way I am feeling at that moment. I feel like I am truly myself on my blog. Many people feel that they need to share with the world how great of a person they are and how they have it all together (ie perfect husband, perfect kids, perfect job, perfect health), but I feel I just tell it like it is. (I hope.) But come on, I do have to show off a little!

3. My blog audience is family, current friends, and old friends. They are spread out everywhere and this way I can keep in contact with people I haven't seen in years or don't see on a frequent basis.

4. There are things I would never share on my blog (even if I really wanted to):
-I don't share about arguments and problems in my marriage
-I don't share about politics, because I seriously hate reading about others' political views and don't want to impose my own on someone.
-I don't share much about my religion because not everyone who reads my blog is LDS. I am not ashamed about it, and I will talk about it sometimes, but I don't get into too much detail about it.
-I won't share anything bad about someone that I know reads my blog. Sometimes the blog is not the right place to vent. I still vent in blog entries, but it just might get back to that person so I try and think before I type.
-I don't type post after post about how wonderful my husband/children/family/pets are because that gets nauseating.
-I try not to share much personal info (last name, city, etc.)

5. I try and vary my posts so that I am not always writing about the same old thing. After all, I do want it to be interesting.

6. I use my blog as a creative outlet. It has helped me become a better writer and photographer.

Do you blog? If so, what kind of blogger are you? Or are you just a blog stalker? Please, do tell!

I'm not a blogger...yet. I want to be, though. Just started reading yours. I love it! Loved _The Hunger Games_, too.

I love reading your posts! They are very entertaining! Sorry I don't comment on them more often! :)

I started a blog first and foremost as a family journal. I liked that I could make it all pretty-like, which is more fun to me than a word document or something. And then our family members back east caught wind of it and wanted to be able to read it so they could stay up to date on our lives. Now that we've had a baby, it is GREAT for that purpose. I write a ton of personal thoughts and detailed info about our family life, but it's because this blog is for me first and foremost, and for everyone else after that. In fact, I print out the blog posts and put them in a binder with my scrapbook pages! I definitely think of it as our journal, but I let others read it to keep up on what's going on in our lives. I agree with not using it as too much of a vent, though... gotta try to keep the peace! :)

I'm new to blogging, but started b/c I finally found time and it's a nice way to share with friends and family the happenings. I have a private blog for venting/good ol fashioned gossip. BUT my family blog is about family stuff only. I try to have a theme or a purpose for writing.

That's interesting. I never thought about what kind of blogger I am. I guess I write because it helps me get perspective on what I'm thinking/feeling. And I like the validation of "I'm not the only one who ____."

I blog because I don't keep a journal or scrapbook, but I feel less guilty for at least recording what is going on in my life for posterity. Also, I live 1,000 miles from most of my family and friends. Blogging keeps them informed, since I don't always pick up the phone and keep in touch like I should.
