Three hours later the oven was clean and I put the fan and books away. I new those The Work and the Glory books would come in handy for something!

Day 356: Sunday, November 1
I decided to clean my oven for the first time in this house, which is about 4 1/2 years. Actually, that's not true. I tried a couple years ago but the power went out, so it never actually finished. Anyway, I set it to clean while I was hiding out in my house during church hours, in my pajamas, with no make-up. (The eyes again guys. I don't think this pink eye thing is ever going away!) At least I showered! About a half hour into the self cleaning cycle the smoke alarm went off. I grabbed a towel and waved it near the alarm to get it to stop the incessant racket, then went on my merry way. Then it went off again. Then again. Fifteen times the alarm went off, and fifteen times I tried to get it to stop, including removing the battery. I guess the alarm is very sensitive to the fumes of the oven. In between the ringing, I tried to figure out a way to get it to stop. I opened every single window and door in the house, but that didn't work. I finally found a solution:

Three hours later the oven was clean and I put the fan and books away. I new those The Work and the Glory books would come in handy for something!

Awesome! Why didn't you just disconnect it? Very nice work around - not sure I'd have been that resourceful.
That is hilarious. But hey, it worked.
I did disconnect it! Didn't work.
Great tower. Great story. It's hilarious, but only because it wasn't ME trying to frantically make the alarm shut off.
