Day 352: Wednesday, October 28

My eyes were a little red and goopy yesterday, but I didn't think too much about it. I thought my contacts were just old so I took them out and put in my glasses. But when I woke up this morning, my eyes were completely crusted shut and my eyelids were, I swear, swollen a quarter of an inch. They were huge and bugged out! I knew it had to be pink eye. The slight problem was that tonight was parent-teacher conferences. I went through the entire debate in my head as well as with my mom and friend/coworker Leslie. Leslie's husband James was kind enough to become my last minute sub when we decided I needed to head to the doctor. The doctor's office got me in at 9 AM this morning. I got an affirmative diagnosis, got my eye drops at the pharmacy, and headed home to try and get as much antibiotics in my system as I could before heading to parent-teacher conferences. I was so scary looking that I seriously wanted the swelling in my eyes to go down before venturing out to school, so I took a nap with a cold washcloth over my eyes and a slice of delicious pumpkin bread. That seemed to help a ton, so when it came time to leave I whipped on some make-up, finished printing out my report cards, and met the parents, keeping my hands away from my eyes at all times. By the time 7:00 rolled around I had just about had it. My eyes were killing me and I had an ache behind my ears because I am not used to wearing glasses. I was just plain tired and there was still another hour to go. Of course K. was my last appointment. She is very neat and organized (i.e. insanely slow!) so there was no rushing her out the door. By the time I finally managed to get her out and myself home, I only had enough energy to put my hair into rags for my Halloween costume the next day (no school on Friday) and tumble into bed.
