Day 337: Tuesday, October 13

Today Ballet West came to our school and performed for us! They started the assembly by teaching us about the history of ballet, the steps, and the positions involved with ballet. The music was written by the famous composer Tchaikovsky. Some of the kids in school got to come onstage to learn some new moves!

Then they told us about the ballet Sleeping Beauty and performed part of the ballet for us!

Carabosse is the evil witch who curses Aurora because she isn't invited to the christening. She is often played by a man to make her look larger and more evil. The kids laughed so hard when "she" jumped into the audience to scare them.

The Lilac Fairy turns the death curse into a curse of sleeping for 100 years, where she will then be kissed by a prince. Here is Aurora sleeping.

The Prince and Aurora were joined by Puss-in-Boots and the White Cat for the wedding! The kids got the biggest kick out of the kiss between Aurora and the Prince. Ewww!

I was amazed at how much the kids enjoyed the ballet! I was a little nervous at first, but they loved it!

How can you not love ballet!? It's just amazing what can be told through dance! I wish I could have been there. Sounds like it was a lot of fun!
