Day 256: Friday, July 24

Today is a huge holiday in Utah, a holiday that is probably even bigger than the 4th of July. All over the state families are celebrating Pioneer Day by going to street fairs, camping out to get good spots on the parade routes, and watching fireworks. We celebrated by digging out stumps. Again. Lani and Dave arrived from Texas to get this field all cleaned up and finished! Look at those ladies wasting time in the shade.

We did, however, get to break to pick up Kiersten from BYU-I. She is going home for her "not so summer" break. Having brought no work clothes, she got to borrow from Grandma. My fashion-conscious sister loved her outfit so much that it must be commemorated! This is what she did every time the camera came near her.

And this is the picture that was taken on the sly!

As the routine went all day, the backhoe would dig out the stumps

and the bobcat would go around carting the stumps and roots as well as smoothing the field.

This plan meant the work got done tons faster! What got done by hand in the past four days was done in several hours. We took out the biggest stump in the garden. We sisters posed ballet-style on it to show its voluminous size.

Now our job is finished, considering the fam heads back to Washington in the morning. Now it is up to the rest of the gang to get rid of the five giant piles we created!

Oh, and as a side note I got to watch the fireworks this holiday - from the car while I was driving home, exhausted from a long day of lugging roots around a field.
