Day 104: Monday, February 23 - The Birds and the Bees

My dog is driving me crazy! (Notice is it dog, singular.) The male is so much worse than the female during the heat cycle. I locked him in the bathroom, out of the guest room when I was in there, and in the backyard because I can't stand the panting anymore!
He won't eat, howls in the middle of the night because we have them in separate cages (otherwise we would have puppies due during our New York trip), and follows her around, panting, ALL

DAY
LONG!

I even had the unfortunate pleasure of the company of an eleven-year-old boy and nine-year-old girl at a bathroom break this afternoon.

"Hi! Can we pet Zoe and Zane?" Zoe proceeds to growl and nip at Zane as he gets a little too frisky. "What is wrong with her?"

"Um, she is in heat. She doesn't like anyone to, er, get too close to her right now. Let's wait for another day to pet them."

"What does it mean that she is in heat?" Nice one.

Well, Zoe is on her period and can get pregnant at this moment and Zane is a horny beast that is beside himself. I can't leave them along for a minute or he will begin to mount her which will be followed with my screaming "Zane!" at the top of my lungs to get him off. "She, um, er, can have puppies right now and is very, uh, protective of herself."

"She doesn't seem to like Zane very much. Will she let you touch her?"

"She will let me hold her because she knows me. Zane is just a little too much for her right now. Okay, we have to go in, but say hi another day!"

The pleasure was all mine.

And you thought you were not going to have to be put in these uncomfortable circumstances until you had children!!

It's so wrong. I haven't been able to get this out of my head all afternoon.
