Day 77: Tuesday, January 27 - It's Official, I am Dying

I called in for a sub at around 12:45, during the second sleepless night of this illness. I seriously can't sleep and it's killing me! There was no way I was going to work again today. The doctor, thankfully, got me in at 9 AM. Surprisingly, my strep test was negative! The doctor was pretty shocked. In fact, he said, "Frankly, I don't believe it." False negatives are common with this illness. Well, there is another illness I might have - mono. Did you know they have exactly the same symptoms? I sure didn't. He called me in some antibiotics and told me to call him if I don't feel better in about a week. Mono doesn't respond to the antibiotics, so if I still feel like crap next week, you will know what I have! Personally, I vote for the strep. Tonight, however, it doesn't look promising. Not only does it kill to swallow anything, even spit, but my tongue hurts so bad it hurts to talk. Since it will be 24 hours on antibiotics, I am planning on going back to work tomorrow, and talking is sorta crucial to my job description.

I did, however, to to my math class today. There is way more work when you miss a class. I just told everyone to stay away. That was rough. I have had the worst brain fog all day, and nothing comes out right! I tried not to talk much, but sometimes you get called on, etc. and have to speak up. I hope everyone realizes I am sick and not just an idiot.

I am also grateful for the large pot of Cincinnati Chili I made on Saturday. Since I have not felt well enough to cook, this has given Mike meals every day! Also, the only leftovers he will eat. I however, can't eat anything. In fact, I have no appetite and have to be reminded to eat by the rumbling in my stomach. Even then, nothing goes down well. Those crackers I so loved on Sunday have to be dissolved in my mouth before swallowing. Not worth it. These items are the only things that go down even semi decently, and asking for a lot.

Oh my goodness I hope for your sake it's strep. I had mono while I was planning my wedding and it was AWFUL. The WORST sore throat I have ever had in my life!!! since there isn't really anything you can do for mono my Dr told me to take like 5 Echinacea pills a day to boost my immune system....Good luck! Feel better!

It is seriously the worst sore throat I have ever had! I don't remember ever having one this bad. If you planned a wedding through this, you deserve a medal.

Oh, you poor thing. I HATE being sick!!! I wonder if you DO have strep. I remember getting it a ton when I was a kid, but a lot of times the tests would come back negative. My doctor had the idea to send it away though, to test for another rarer strain of strep, and that came back positive. I guess most doctor's offices only check for the most common kinds of strep, but there are other kinds, too. So maybe you have one of those? After I came back positive with it that time, my doctor knew to send my sample away for additional testing every time I had a sore throat with a negative strep test, and it almost always came back positive. Weird, right? Anyway, just food for thought... Sorry you are so sick!! I hope it improves soon, because there is nothing like having to go back to work and fix everything that went wrong with a sub (or writing sub plans when you feel sick!!).
