Day 123 - October 31, 2011

I don't know if it is the extra kids, my management, or just this class, but this year's Halloween was a whole different experience than previous year's Halloweens. I know my class of 29 is rambunctious.  That is not a new one.  But today they were just plain silly.  In the past I have always had a pretty normal morning, but not this year.  In order to keep them entertained, I started the day with a BINGO math lesson.  I hope we are catching on to the time vocab of half past, quarter after, and quarter til.  That ended all true academics for the day.  We then had an adjective fashion show.  We discussed the concept of ColorBAGS to remember the definition of an adjective - Color, Beauty, Age, Goodness, Size. Then in partners, they had to come up with some adjectives to describe the Halloween character of their partner.  They each then had to MC their adjectives as their partner strutted his or her stuff on the catwalk.  Fun and crazy, but not quite as creative as I would have liked.

After lunch came the Halloween party.

And then a collapse on the couch for some R&R before the trick-or-treater's showed up. I wanted to take off my gorgeous corset dress to have a little breathing time in the afternoon.  Unfortunately my zipper was stuck.  I could take the wings and skirt off, but the top just wouldn't budge.  And there is nobody around I know well enough to ask to unzip my dress.  If I didn't know that Kiersten was coming around that evening to work on a project, I would most definitely have found someone somehow, but instead I just hung out in it until she showed after 7.  And then I could breathe.  But the trick-or-treater's didn't get the full effect.  Instead they got my awesome makeup and hair paired with a black sweatsuit.

I still got to show off the awesome part, though.  I was much more pleased with the effect today than I was at the Halloween party last week.  And now I am off to shower all the purple gunk out of my hair.  I hope the rest of the trick-or-treaters' realize that the dark porch means that I ran out of candy and don't bother to knock on the door on a night that should be called "Let's See How Many Times the Dogs Can Bark" night instead of Halloween or All Hallow's Eve.
