Day 53 - August 22, 2011

Twas the night before the first day of school and all through the house,
Nicole was not sleeping but yes was her spouse.

The papers were placed on the tables with care
with hopes that new things would soon be learned there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
while visions of school books danced in their heads.

The pencils in their places and books in their desk
while all were sleeping to get much needed rest.

When out in the hall there arose such a clatter
I leaped from my chair to see the kids and their chatter.

Away to the doorway I flew like a flash
tore open the door with a melodious crash.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear
but twenty-nine students and their parents dear.

A little bit taller, another year older,
a little more knowledgeable, a little bit bolder.

They wandered in as a group towards mine
i knew in a moment it must be that time.

They all found their seats and acted cool,
sat down just in time for the first day of school.

Live each day like it's the first day of school. I hope that I can start each day as excited as I was no the first day, with the idea that something new will happen, because it is new to them even if it isn't new to me.

Today was a good day. I was nervous and excited all at the same time, but it turned out fairly well. I looped to third with 10 of my previous students. (I learned that word looped today. Apparently it's a normal word in the teaching community.) You know what's funny? It wasn't those kids that were the hardest today. It was a couple of my new ones. I am going to have to rethink some of my strategy tomorrow. Hope this doesn't jinx me.
