Best. Roast. Ever.

After spending the afternoon park hopping around our town, (along with a morning of General Conference and caramel pull-aparts), it was wonderful to come home to the delicious smell of roast in the crockpot. I have been having trouble with my roasts lately - they seem to be coming out dry, even in the crockpot. But this one was delicious and flavorful, as well as tender. I actually mostly thawed it in the fridge overnight, and I think that might have something to do with it turning out better. I believe I got this recipe off of http://sisterscafe.blogspot.com/. I added a lot more water than the original recipe called for to eliminate some of the saltiness of the 4 packets of seasonings, and it was just perfect.

4 Packet Roast

1 packet ranch dressing mix
1 packet brown gravy mix
1 packet Italian salad dressing mix
1 packet onion soup mix
1 roast of choice
2 ½ cups water
assorted veggies if desired (carrots, potatoes, onions, etc.)

Place roast in crockpot. Arrange vegetables around the roast if being used. Sprinkle the mix packets over the roast. Pour water around the roast. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

The gravy was fabulous, and there was a ton of it. Mashed potatoes and gravy would be perfect for this recipe!

This is exactly how I used to make my roast! I agree, you need to add more water, because otherwise it's way too salty and doesn't make enough gravy. Crockpot meals are the best!
