Mayson Lee and the Rock and Roll Space Studs

Last night Mike and I went to a concert at in Salt Lake. Two of his coworkers play in a band called Kilby Court so we went to support them. We had planned to arrive right as they went on stage, but we were given the times the concert started as opposed to their stage time. But if we had gotten there late, we would have missed out on the two awesome opening bands.

Opener #1 - SLFM: This was a single female that played the electric ukulele. That's right people, the ukulele. Would you like to know what her band name means? Yeah, so would I. Apparently it's a secret. If you figure it out, though, you can join her club! I oh so wish I could put a song from her free cd on this blog. I know you would love it as much as we did. Her trademark was this large paper mustache on a stick that she kept holding up to her face, so the highlight of her show were the chocolate mustaches she was selling for $1. Of course we had to buy one!

Band #2 - Secret Abilities: This band was comprised of three Mormon men in their mid-thirties singing strange songs about taking your wife out to dinner and creating robots that destroy the world. Their lyrics were strange, but they had a nice sound reminiscent of The Dead Kennedy's. I enjoyed their playing, and thankfully couldn't hear most of the lyrics over the loud music. I joked with Mike that he was going to be like that when he is a little older. He didn't like that very much.

Band #3 - Mayson Lee and the Rock and Roll Space Studs: This is the band we actually came to see. They were really good, and the lead singer had one of those cool old school microphones that they used in the 50's. The guitarist was very entertaining. He kept jumping around the stage, shredding on his guitar. The other guitarist and bass player weren't quite as good. But I liked their music. I might actually listen to it again.

Band #4 - It Foot It Ears: We didn't stay for them. We heard that the drummer stops the set to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Strange. (You know, because all the other bands were totally normal and everything.)
