You Are What You Eat

I have never been a fan of our school lunches. They are full of processed foods like chicken nuggets, pizza pockets, beef strips, and other mystery meat products. Other choices include nachos with powdered cheese sauce, a daily choice of corn dog, fake mashed potatoes, breakfast pizza, churros, donuts, etc. Thankfully, they now have better fruit and veggie options, and pizza and spaghetti always include salad, but that doesn't change the fact that our ovens are used purely for warming and not for actual cooking. But now that I have started watching the show Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution,

Chicken nuggets and patties are extremely cheap, which is why schools serve these kinds of foods, but they are just not healthy for us. I am hoping that the USDA and schools will start making changes in the way they sell food to the schools. If Huntington, West Virginia, the most unhealthy area in the United States and the world, can make the change, then so can we. But how do we get the people that make these decisions in schools to actually listen? I signed the petition here, but will that actually make a difference?

Oh, and I don't think I will ever eat chicken nuggets again.
