You Can Play, But No Pay
Today is the third furlough day of the year. One way our our district decided to cut back on the budget was to drop three work days, and therefore three pay days for teachers. The first two happened at the beginning of the year. Instead of having four days to get classrooms ready, they gave us two. Generally, after each parent teacher conference, the teachers show up the next day without kids to "get stuff done." At least the high school teachers get stuff done (i.e. report cards). We elementary school teachers already had our report cards ready for the parents, so mostly we just waste time for half the day and get in a little something before we get to leave for the day. So today, after a long night of parents and students trickling in and out until 9:00, we got to sleep in! I must say, it was heaven. I get home so exhausted after those days that it is really hard to get up and go to work the next morning. Now I can hang out in my pajamas and sit on the couch to my heart's content, recovering from the previous night's events.

I'm loving the day off, but I'm still really bitter that we didn't get paid for those days spent putting our classrooms together!
