Day 179: Friday, May 8 - The Bathroom Surprise and Other Assundry Things

When I opened the door to the bathroom at work today and saw a man standing by the toilet, I had a slight panic attack. I thought I had walked in on someone using the bathroom. When I thought about it again, I realized that it didn't quite make sense that Tom Cruise would be using our elementary school bathrooms, especially not while talking on his cell phone at the same time. It always gives everyone a shock when we see Tom hanging around the school. I am not the only one who got caught in this trap. At least I didn't squeal out loud.

Today was my final day judging for the year. I was so pleased that it was easier than last time. I now have the hang of it and can breathe a little easier during the evening. It doensn't, however, make the day any shorter. The day was just as long and tiresome as last time. I was just grateful I had Saturday off! I just have to share some of the interesting names of the contestants. We had Winter White, Rosemary Grow, and my favorite, Stormy Day. It is the same idea as naming my kid Rose. Poor children.

Advice to parents of dancers in competitions:
#1 Don't choose a song that is currently in the Top 40 hits on the radio. I heard the same Rhianna, Hannah Montana, and Lady Gaga songs over and over. We judges like a little variety when scoring. We give props for song choice, just like American Idol judges. But don't copy moves and songs from So You Think You Can Dance. We can tell that, too.

#2 Don't use the same moves over and over in each and every dance. Spice it up. All the dances look the same. We can't really give any low scores on choreography, but I wish we could. Every dance started looking the same. Help your choreographer out by asking for some fresh ideas.

It sounds like you are getting pretty good at judging. I am glad it is getting easier. You are in the system now, so will you be called on next fall? Mom
