We woke up for our official Capital Tour. We got to see all the special places in the Capital Building like the place where the president gives his addresses, the dome, every state's two statues, etc.

One of my favorite places was the Library of Congress. It was a gorgeous building!

It had literacy and thinking sayings all over the walls in order to promote learning. I stole one to post above the library in my classroom, "In books lies the soul of the whole past time." From there we headed to the Museum of Natural History (which is the basis for the new Night at the Museum movie). We especially loved the gems exhibit, where we saw the Hope Diamond plus many more gorgeous stones and necklaces, and the butterfly exhibit. The butterflies flew everywhere, but you weren't allowed to touch them or pick them up. I kept hoping one would accidentally land on me, because that is okay, but it never did.

When the rain hit on our way to the Washington Monument, we decided we were tired and headed back on the Metro to our hotel in Alexandria. It's no wonder we were tired. We learned that tourists in Washington D.C. walk between 7 and 12 miles per day. It makes up for the lack of working out this trip.
